MP4 is the default lingua franca
MP4 (often with H.264 video and AAC audio) plays on virtually every phone, tablet, smart TV, and classroom projector without extra codecs. If your goal is maximum compatibility after a YouTube video download workflow, MP4 is usually the safest label to show users.
Some pipelines also offer “high quality” MP4 presets that map to the best source rendition the platform exposed—still bounded by what was streamed, not magic upscaling.
WebM can be smaller but less universal
WebM typically pairs VP9 or AV1 video with Opus audio. It shines on the web and in modern browsers, yet older hardware players and some editing suites handle it inconsistently.
If your audience is mostly desktop Chrome users, WebM may save bandwidth. If they watch on TVs or share files via USB sticks, MP4 reduces support tickets.

Tell users what they are getting
Clear naming (resolution, codec hint, stereo vs mono) builds trust. Ambiguous “Best” buttons frustrate people who expected an MP4 for school or work offline playback.
Time zones in published dates
ISO `datetime` attributes should reflect a real clock choice (UTC recommended). Visible dates can stay user-friendly (“Updated April 2026”).
Large jumps in `dateModified` without content changes can look manipulative—update when you truly edit.
